Do not worry about providing a shot list to your wedding photographer

Should you need to take your car to a mechanic, surely you wouldn’t provide a list of parts that need to be fixed or replaced. You are taking your car in because you are not a professional. It’s now time to sit back, and trust your mechanic to deliver the finished product you are paying for. This same logic applies to your wedding photographer!

There may be many beautiful wedding photos you have come across in your search for inspiration that you would like to take and make your own. However, you do not need to provide a shot list to your photographer if you would not like, as they are professionals and know the best way to capture your wedding. If there are photos you would like to try and capture, talk to your photographer about them.

  • You can’t plan perfection.

During your wedding planning, your intent was for everything to be perfect. As the flower girl walks most of the way down the aisle and dumps her petals right before the altar, rather than scattering them on her way down, or a glass of champagne spills on your wedding table, you will soon realize perfection can’t be planned. Try as you may, the perfect wedding is the result of you marrying your soul mate, not your décor or cake flavor. The same goes for your wedding photography. Handing your photographer a shot list, limits the natural occurrences, and possibly heartwarming moments, they can capture that could pop up on your wedding day.

  • Trust the professional you hired.

When searching through potential photographers, one question you have to ask yourself is whether you truly trust them to capture your big day. If you have hired a photographer, chances are you decided to trust them with such an important task. Don’t get cold feet now, your photographer is still up for the job and you will have a wedding album that will bring tears of joy to your eyes after it’s all said and done.

  • The best way to show your uniqueness.

Your wedding day is unique to you and your partner, from your vows to your first dance. The fastest way to take away from the unique element your day possesses is by trying to recreate other couple’s wedding photos. This is your day, so you should certainly showcase it in a unique way. Your photographer is going to create a wedding album for you that is completely specific to you and your new spouse.

Every wedding is different, every couple is different, light, mood, ambience, all these factors will influence the results. It would be difficult if not impossible for any photographer to reproduce exactly the images from other weddings or photo shoots.

Also, each photographer has a different style but to recreate these images your hired photographer will spend a lot longer attempting to recreate the conditions, angle and pose only to not fully achieve an exact replication of the original.

Most of the time it will leave you disappointed with attempting to recreate existing concepts rather than enjoying your own session.

If you feel stressed about not getting the perfect light, pose or are not feeling comfortable because you’re concerned with other outside factors, it’s going to represent itself in your photos.

Mark Twain once said, “Comparison is the death of joy.” Definetely he would have said a thing or two about Pinterest!

When it comes to your wedding, there are many things that you can plan down to the finest detail. This is not the case with your wedding photography. Relax, enjoy your big day, and trust that your photographer will capture the most beautiful elements of your wedding day, without a shot list.

It’s time for your wedding. Your commitment to each other. Your love for each other.
