Wedding photo ideas for each of the seasons

Whilst high summer is the most popular time to host a wedding, the other seasons have plenty of charm and allure to offer any couple. From the vibrant colors of springtime to the cozy warmth of winter, looking off-peak can bring a unique aesthetic to your day – as well as saving you some pennies. Whichever season you tie the knot in, you can use the natural beauty of the time of year to amplify your wedding photos. Here’s how to do just that.

Spring
A time for new beginnings, where the chill of winter gives way to the gentle warmth of longer, sunnier days, spring is a beautiful season to wed in. You can use a variety of seasonal blooms to create picturesque backdrops and accents for your photos, by creating archways, table arrangements or perhaps even a flower wall.

Cherry blossoms are delicate and create an enchanting, romantic atmosphere, whilst peonies come in almost every shade and are a versatile bloom for creating arrangements to match any color scheme. In case the rain should fall on your wedding day, be prepared with umbrellas and welly boots to capture some playful moments and kisses in the rain.

Summer
Of course, in summer there are more daylight hours to host your wedding and you’re more likely to enjoy a sun-filled ceremony. As evening draws in, the temperature doesn’t plummet so much, making summer the perfect time to celebrate an outdoor wedding. Take advantage of the weather by capturing intimate moments on the beach or by a glistening lake, and request photos to be taken in the golden hour just before sunset for soft, fairytale-esque portraits.

You can also showcase your festivities throughout your wedding photos by capturing candid shots of your guests busting a move to your live band, sipping cocktails on the terrace and mingling with a canapé of fresh, local produce in hand.

Autumn
The iconic colors of fall give a rustic, heartwarming feel to your autumnal wedding, and can be incorporated into your day in some really fun and creative ways. Consider setting your event in the heart of a woodland to seamlessly blend the orange tones of the leaves into your shots.

Comfortable areas with blankets, floor cushions and outdoor rugs offer a perfect place for guests to relax whilst sipping on a hot drink; and elements such as pumpkins, hay bales, and baskets of apples add a whimsical backdrop for your wedding photos.

Winter
Embracing the frosted beauty of a winterscape for your wedding scenery is certainly an underrated way to celebrate your day. Imagine photos of you both illuminated by candlelight, with a snow-covered landscape stretching out far behind you.

You can adorn your tables with seasonal pops of color such as the iconic red poinsettia, or lush deep red roses which contrast wonderfully with the cooler outdoor tones of the season. Twinkling fairy lights, faux-fur throws and plush cushions create cozy corners perfect for mingling and happy photographs that will warm your heart to look back on for years to come.

Embrace the natural beauty of the seasons
No matter which season you choose to get married in, each offers a unique way to capture the love and joy of your day. By looking to include seasonal blooms and produce, you can create stunning photo opportunities which will complement both the natural landscape and your wedding theme.
