Capturing Love Amidst the Fall Foliage: Payton and Spencer’s Engagement Photo Session at Veteran Acres Forest Preserve in Crystal Lake IL

When we think of love stories, we often picture whirlwind romances and grand gestures. However, love has its own timeline, and for Payton and Spencer, their journey began in high school, with a simple connection that would later transform into something truly special. Their love story is one of friendship, growth, and the beauty of coming together. We had the privilege of capturing this love during their engagement photo session at the enchanting Veteran Acres Forest Preserve in Crystal Lake this fall.

Payton and Spencer

I first met Payton when she was a bridesmaid at a breathtaking wedding in South Carolina. Her radiant smile and infectious energy left a lasting impression on me, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that I would be photographing her engagement session with Spencer. It was an opportunity to capture a love story that had been years in the making.

A Love Story That Began in High School

Payton and Spencer’s story began in high school, where they briefly dated for about a month. However, they soon realized that their connection went beyond romance, and they decided to remain friends. Over the next nine years, their friendship grew stronger, providing a rock-solid foundation of support as they navigated the challenges of adulthood.

From First Date to Forever

High school sweethearts often have a special place for the locations that witnessed their early love. For Payton and Spencer, that place is Richardson’s Corn Maze. Every year since the beginning of their adult relationship, they made an annual trip to the corn maze. On September 23, 2023, this familiar location became the backdrop for a life-changing moment. As they stood on one of the bridges that crisscrossed between mazes, Spencer got down on one knee and proposed, sealing their commitment to forever.Sun rays over the couple

A Connection to Nature at Veteran Acres Forest Preserve

For their engagement photo session, Payton and Spencer chose the picturesque setting of Veteran Acres Forest Preserve in Crystal Lake. This location held a special place in their hearts because both of them share a deep love for nature and forests. Surrounded by the beauty of the fall foliage, they wanted their photos to capture the essence of who they are and the connection they feel with the natural world.

A Celebration of Love and Nature

Looking ahead to their wedding day, Payton and Spencer plan to celebrate not only their love for each other but also their love for the great outdoors. They envision a fall wedding on a cliff top in either Utah or Tennessee, where the rugged landscapes will serve as the perfect backdrop for their love story.

A Personal and Natural Photoshoot

During their engagement session, Payton and Spencer had a clear vision for their photos. They wanted them to be natural, reflective of their personalities, and connected to nature. Going barefoot and feeling the earth beneath their feet was an essential part of their vision. The photos captured the essence of their love and their connection to the environment.happiness in Veterans Acres Forest preserve

Making It Their Own

What made this engagement session truly special was the ability to personalize it. Payton and Spencer wanted to include their Hand Fasting cord, a symbolic element that held deep meaning for them. Going barefoot, surrounded by nature, they were able to create a photoshoot that was uniquely theirs.
