Amy and Su Engagement Session Chicago

Bright lights, towering buildings, and the buzz of city life – that’s what we had in store for us throughout Amy and Su’s vibrant engagement session a weeks ago. We hit the bustling streets of Chicago and I am so excited that we were able to use Chicago Board of trade as a backdrop, along with Lyric Opera, Chicago Theater, and Chicago Riverwalk.

These two were full of energy, and I love that they wore formal outfits. It was the perfect complement to the colorful, electric city backgrounds we were working with throughout the shoot.

I did ask Amy: How did you two meet and how did the proposal go?

Su and I met through an online data app in 2014 then we realized we lived one block away from each other. I can see his apartment living room through my bedroom window which is very cool. We got engaged on Easter laster year. On the morning of Easter Sunday, I went to church as I usually do while he stayed at my place studying. When I came back from church, there was a stuffed bunny and easter eggs hidden every corner in my place waiting for me to hunt. He prepared everything while I was away at church and wanted to give me an easter experience since I didn’t really celebrate as I grew up in China. Every egg was in different size and color with a piece of candy inside it. I searched through living room, bedroom, bathroom and almost got every one of them. He told me there still one more left and I must find it to complete the mission. He even gave me a hint –‘it’s somewhere I use/see every day’. Immediately I went to the kitchen and opened the rice bag because I love rice and can’t go without it for a day. Too bad it was not in there so I have to ask for more hint. Eventually, I found the last one in the microwave (with his help). The egg was much larger than the other ones. When I popped it open I saw the ring buried in pieces of candies. That’s the story. Very sweet and special.

I think the second image above is my absolute favorite from the day. Just look at that chemistry, their expressions! These two are going to be so much fun to photograph on their wedding day in September! Can’t wait!
